ARE THERE POSSIBLE HEALTH BENEFITS OF MAPLE SYRUP? -Another one of nature's Superfoods?

University of Rhode Island researcher Navindra Seeram has discovered 54
new beneficial compounds found in pure maple syrup and confirmed that 20
fighting certain types of cancer. View this link for his study. We were fortunate to have Mr. Seeram visit Davell's sugarhouse in 2009.

PRODUCT QUALITY

We pack our syrup between 180° - 190° to preserve the quality of our
product. Occasionally, over time, a mold, can appear on the surface of the
syrup. This is a harmless ‘falsur’ mold and is occasionally found in maple
syrups of all qualities and colors. It is not toxic to humans - just unpleasant
to the eye. See this link:

You can re-sterilize the syrup simply by pouring the contents in a pan,
skimming the contents then bringing it briefly to 190° (light boil) and and
then rebottling it. Of course, you can always return your bottle for a new
one.

PRODUCT AVAILABILITY

Because weather conditions and other factors are out of our control, we
reserve the right to make available other pure New England produced maple syrup (usually from MA, NH or VT) with our stock to meet customer and farmerʼs market demand. All syrup is 100% pure maple, guaranteed.

STORAGE OF MAPLE SYRUP

Unopened syrup stores easily, it does not need refrigeration - just keep in a
dark, dry place at room temperature or lower if possible. However, prolonged (more than a year) storage may cause the color of maple syrup to darken and the flavor may change slightly. It is recommended that if you are going to store syrup for over a year, to keep it in the freezer or cooler. This is the best way to prevent spoilage and to keep your syrup at its peak of quality. Maple syrup unopened can keep for a long time. We believe glass bottles keep syrup at its best . . .

BOTTLE INFORMATION

We are in the process of converting to ʻall glassʼ containers with metal lids.
This gives us a better feeling about how our empty containers will effect the
environment. Glass is basically made from sand and the metal lids will
break down and oxidize without the same harsh impact to land, sea or air,
compared to plastic. Please note that we will use up all of our remaining
plastic jugs - and we ask that our customers recycle them properly.

MASON JARS

We now pack our maple syrup in reusable Mason Jars. For us, this is getting back to basics with regards to cutting waste. Customers can use the syrup, rinse the container and reuse for soups, beverages or crafts. You can purchase new lids at many retail stores. These jars are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning and can be put in the microwave-(without the metal lid.)
